Roy Castle for years fronted the Record Breakers show. It showed people who had earned their place in the Guinness Book of Records, for eating so many beans in a minute, jumping so many cars on a tea tray, or running 100 metres in a fast time, that sort of thing.
Roy Castle is now sadly dead but if he was I'm sure he'd have a slot on his show for this man: Stanley Kobierowski. He was arrested by police in Rhode Island, America after his car hit a message board on a highway. He showed signs of being over the legal driving limit but when he was breathalysed they had no idea how over the limit he was: blood alcohol reading 0.491 %.
According to the article in the San Francisco Chronicle they were "the highest readings state officials could remember for someone who didn't end up dead. "
"If you're the strongest, the drunkest, if you beat them all - you're a Record Breaker!"

That's the swally - what's the swally?
Swally is another word for "alcohol" - in particular, in the form of a socially-acceptable drink, not an ingredient in a cleansing wipe or window cleaning fluid.
"That's the swally!" is an excuse, a description for a certain type of otherwise inexplicable behaviour, or if the law courts recognise it: a sound legal defence. When you spill some lager down your newly-ironed shirt - that's the swally. When you read about someone who has tried to have sex with the pavement - that's the swally. When you see someone slaloming down the road at 2 in the morning, casually eating a pizza out of a box while speaking to themselves - that's the swally.
This blog hopes to highlight some of the more entertaining, amusing and downright depressing uses of the demon drink that deserve a shout out.
